Could the Bruins end up losing Viktor Arvidsson to one of their biggest rivals?

With July 1 almost here, Boston Bruins pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) Viktor Arvidsson remains with a contract extension. If this does not change by Wednesday, he will hit the free agent market.

With the Bruins acquiring JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth on the first day of the NHL Draft, more questions have been coming up about Arvidsson's future in Boston. If the veteran winger does hit the market, he is going to generate a ton of interest.

In a recent article for TheScore, Josh Wegman predicted that Arvidsson will end up signing with a three-year, $15 million ($5 million AAV) contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer.

"Arvidsson's speed and motor should be appealing for a Maple Leafs team that needs to get faster and could use another top-nine winger option," Wegman wrote. "The Swedish influence already on the team in William Nylander and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, plus Mats Sundin in the front office, could help sway Arvidsson. He also excelled playing under new Leafs head coach Jim Hiller in Los Angeles."

If the Bruins were to lose Arvidsson to the Maple Leafs, it would certainly sting. The 33-year-old winger just had a fantastic season with the Bruins in 2025-26, posting 25 goals, 29 assists, and 54 points in 69 games. Losing a player who produced solid offense, especially to one of their biggest rivals, would undoubtedly be bad news for the Bruins.

However, the Bruins still have some time to work out a deal to keep Arvidsson around in Boston. He is the pending UFA that they should be working the hardest to keep back, and it will be interesting to see if they can re-sign him from here. On a short-term deal, it would be great if the Bruins kept him in Boston.
