With the Ducks having salary cap issues, the Bruins should consider targeting Chris Kreider.

Chris Kreider has long been viewed as a potential target for the Boston Bruins. Some fans wanted the Bruins to try to acquire him when the New York Rangers shopped him last summer before he was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks.

Now, with the Ducks matching the Flyers' five-year, $90 million offer sheet for Leo Carlsson and still needing to re-sign star restricted free agent Cutter Gauthier, could Kreider be moved by Anaheim after just one season? They need to free up cap space, and Kreider has a $6.5 million cap hit through the 2026-27 season.

If the Ducks make Kreider available to help their salary cap situation, the Bruins would be wise to acquire him. While they brought in JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth this off-season, Boston could still use another top-six winger after losing Viktor Arvidsson to the Detroit Red Wings in free agency.

Because of this, here's a trade pitch that would finally have the Bruins land Kreider.

Bruins Get:

  • Chris Kreider

Ducks Get:

  • 2028 Second-Round Pick
  • 2027 Fourth-Round Pick

With this move, the Bruins would be bringing in a veteran power forward who could slot well in their top six. The Ducks, on the other hand, would get two draft picks for Kreider. Yet, most importantly, they would free up $6.5 million of cap space to re-sign Gauthier.

If the Bruins acquired Kreider, he could serve as an upgrade over Casey Mittelstadt on the Bruins' second line left wing spot. He would also provide the Bruins with another clear option for their power play.

In 75 games last season for Anaheim, Kreider posted 22 goals, 28 assists, 50 points, and 69 hits. With numbers like these, the power forward could be a strong pickup for the Bruins.
