According to NHL insider Chris Johnston, the possibility of the Bruins trading this star "can't be entirely ruled out."
The Boston Bruins are a team to watch as we continue to get closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. Management has openly stated that the club could retool its roster, and the way they have been struggling is likely increasing those odds.
In a recent episode of TSN's Overdrive, NHL insider discussed the Bruins' trade deadline plans, noting that they might be sellers.
"I think a big one for me is Boston," Johnston said. "I really think that they could go down the road where potentially they're looking at being even somewhat of a selling team."
Johnston then brought up Bruins captain Brad Marchand, saying that a trade around the star isn't impossible.
"You just look at a pending UFA there like Marchand. Like, would they even consider dealing him? At this point, I have no reason to believe that they are going to that, but I don't think it can be entirely ruled out."
Marchand, 36, has been the subject of trade rumors, and they undoubtedly have been coming up more with the trade deadline less than a month away. Questions about his future in Boston will continue to be asked as we get closer to March 7. However, if the Bruins and No. 63 get a contract extension finalized, they will end.
If the Bruins end up making Marchand available, he would immediately become their top trade chip. The 36-year-old forward is still a star for the Bruins, posting 20 goals and 44 points in 57 games. Thus, they would expect a hefty return for Marchand in any potential move.
Nevertheless, Marchand will continue to be a top player to watch as we charge toward the deadline.
