NHL Free Agency officially begins on Saturday July 1st, yet there has been a flurry of transactions happening across the NHL. The Boston Bruins earlier this week traded Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula, a trade that impacted both the Boston Bruins current roster and the teams salary cap situation.
One player that has been circulating in rumors for the Boston Bruins has picked considerable steam on Wednesday.
Chris Johnston of TSN tweeted that the Boston Bruins reuniting with pending unrestricted free agent forward Milan Lucic sounds like a strong possibility. The potential reunion with Lucic, who played for the Bruins from 2007-2015 and was part of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Bruins team, would certainly create a buzz for a player who is still beloved by Bruins fans and would slot in nicely in a bottom six role for the Bruins.
With the departure of Foligno, bringing back Lucic would make a great deal of sense from a hockey perspective. Lucic would not only be a solid bottom-six forward who can fill Foligno's role, but also his presence on the ice would make a world of a difference in deterring after the whistle extra curricular activity with some of the younger players on the roster.
If Lucic reunites with the Bruins, it will certainly rekindle memories of a good era in Bruins hockey from 2009-2014 in which he was a huge factor in the organizations return to NHL prominence. Time will only tell whether the reunion materializes or not.
