A former Boston Bruins forward is continuing his playing career in Slovakia.
HK Dukla Trencin has announced that they have signed former Bruins forward Ryan Spooner to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season.
Spooner heading to Slovakia comes after he spent the 2025-26 season split between Switzerland's National League and the KHL. In 39 KHL games split between the Shanghai Dragons and Dinamo Minsk, he posted five goals and 29 points. He also had one assist in six NL games with Lausanne HC this past season.
Since his last NHL season in 2018-19, Spooner has mostly played in the KHL. However, with this latest news, he is now set to play for a team in Slovakia for the first time in his career.
Spooner was selected by the Bruins in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 45th overall. From there, the 5-foot-11 forward spent his first six NHL seasons with the Black and Gold.
In 253 games with the Bruins from 2012-13 to 2017-18, Spooner posted 41 goals, 101 assists, and 142 points. This included him setting career highs with 13 goals, 36 assists, and 49 points in 80 games for Boston in 2015-16.
Spooner’s time with the Bruins ended during the 2017-18 season when he was traded to the New York Rangers as part of the deal that brought Rick Nash to Boston. Following this, Spooner had stints with the Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks.
