This former Boston Bruins defenseman has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill told reporters on Tuesday that former Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk will be out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Blashill also shared that fellow Blackhawks defenseman Artyom Levshunov is done for the season as well.

Grzelcyk exited the Blackhawks' March 22 contest against the Nashville Predators early, as he was limited to only two shifts and 1:52 of ice time. He has not returned to the Blackhawks' lineup since, and this update from Blashill confirms that the former Bruins blueliner's season is over.

Grzelcyk posted zero goals, 12 assists, 28 hits, 32 penalty minutes, and 54 blocks in 69 games during this season with the Blackhawks. While he did not hit 40 points again like he did in 2024-25 as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he was a solid veteran on the Blackhawks' blueline this season.

Grzelcyk was selected by the Bruins with the 85th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In eight seasons with the Bruins from 2016-17 to 2023-24, he had 25 goals, 110 assists, 135 points, 441 blocks, and a plus-137 rating.
