This former Bruins defenseman is heading back to Carolina.
After spending over two months on the free agent market, former Boston Bruins defenseman Mike Reilly is heading back to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes have signed Reilly to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. At the NHL level, Reilly will carry an $850,000 cap hit with Carolina this season.
Reilly heading back to the Hurricanes is not too surprising, as he proved to be a decent extra defenseman for them last season. In 42 games with the Hurricanes in 2025-26, he posted one goal, nine points, and a plus-11 rating.
Reilly also had two assists in two playoff games for the Hurricanes during their Stanley Cup championship run.
Reilly spent three seasons with the Bruins from 2020-21 to 2022-23. In 95 games with the Original Six club over that span, he posted four goals, 22 assists, 26 points, and a plus-6 rating.
Reilly's time with the Bruins ended when the Black and Gold bought him out during the 2023 NHL off-season. Since his time as a Bruin ended, he has had stints with the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, and Hurricanes.
