This former Bruins goalie prospect has landed an ECHL contract.
Former Boston Bruins goalie prospect Philip Svedeback has found a home.
The Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL have announced that they have signed Svedeback to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season.
Svedeback became a free agent earlier this month after the Bruins chose not to sign him to an entry-level contract. Now, he is set to get his professional career started in the ECHL with the Nailers after landing this deal.
Svedeback was selected by the Bruins in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, 117th overall. Following this, he spent each of the last four seasons with Providence College, where he had some success.
During his junior season with Providence College in 2024-25, Svedeback posted a 14-8-4 record, a .911 save percentage, and a 2.42 goals-against average. He then followed up by posting an 8-6-2 record, a .918 save percentage, and a 2.32 goals-against average in 18 games last season with Providence as a senior.
While Svedeback had a solid collegiate career, the Bruins still decided not to sign the 24-year-old to an entry-level deal. It will now be interesting to see what can do with Wheeling this upcoming season from here.
