Former Bruins Defender Having Big Season

This Bruins defenseman is having a strong season with his new team.

Boston's Cam Neely Could Be Next On The Hot Seat

After a tough finish to his eight-year tenure with the Boston Bruins, Matt Grzelcyk signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins this past off-season.

Grzelcyk, 31, was due for a change of scenery at that point. The Charlestown, Massachusetts native was notably scratched for 10 of Boston's 13 post-season games last spring. Thus, a fresh start was needed, and he is taking advantage of his one in Pittsburgh.

Grzelcyk is having a strong offensive season with the Penguins. In just 54 games, the 2012 third-round pick has already set new career highs with 26 assists and 27 points. There is still plenty of time for him to build on his new career highs, too. He is also on pace to reach the 40-point mark for the first time in his career.

With Grzelcyk being a pending unrestricted free agent on a struggling Penguins club, he has created chatter as a trade candidate. Teams looking for more offense from the point could consider taking a flier on him, especially with his playoff experience.

In 445 games with the Bruins, Grzelcyk had 25 goals, 135 points, 441 blocks, and a plus-137 rating.
