Former Boston Bruins defenseman Ian Mitchell is on the move.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have acquired Mitchell from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Michael Milne and Wojciech Stachowiak. The Bolts also shared that Mitchell will be heading to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.
After the Bruins chose not to bring back Mitchell this past off-season, the right-shot defenseman signed with the Detroit Red Wings in free agency. He spent all of this season in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins before this trade, where he had four goals, 16 assists, 20 points, and a plus-27 rating in 45 games.
Mitchell spent two seasons with the Bruins from 2023-24 to 2024-25. In 28 games with the Black and Gold over that span, he recorded three assists, 36 blocks, and a plus-4 rating. He also had 10 goals, 41 assists, 51 points, and a plus-21 rating in 89 games with the Providence Bruins.
