The Boston Bruins elected not to send forward Trevor Kuntar a qualifying offer earlier this off-season. As a result, he hit the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1. Now, after going a little over two weeks unsigned, Kuntar has found his new home.
The Buffalo Sabres' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans, have announced that they have signed Kuntar to a one-year AHL contract for the 2025-26 season.
Kuntar has a connection to the Amerks organization, as the team his father, Les Kuntar, played for them during the 1996-97 season, as the team announced.
Kuntar, 24, was selected by the Bruins with the 89th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Buffalo, New York native never appeared in an NHL game for Boston but spent each of the last two seasons with the Providence Bruins.
In 124 games over two seasons with Providence, Kuntar recorded 13 goals, 19 assists, 32 points, and 189 penalty minutes. This includes posting three goals and nine assists in 54 games with Providence this past season.
2 Bruins Top Prospects Named Among NHL's Best
The Boston Bruins have been in the process of improving their prospect pool. While they still have more work to do in the upcoming years, it is fair to say that it is starting to trend in the right direction a bit. This should only continue to be the case, too, as they have four first-round picks over the next two years alone.
