Will this former Bruins forward find a new home before the start of the season?
With it now being almost the middle of August, most of this year's top unrestricted free agents (UFAs) have been signed.
While this is the case, there are some notable UFAs looking for new homes. Among them is former Boston Bruins winger Reilly Smith.
Smith remains a UFA after a bit of a down year with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2025-26. In 69 games with the Pacific Division club, he scored 16 goals but saw a notable dip in points with just 26. This was after he posted at least 40 points in each of his previous three seasons before the 2025-26 campaign.
Smith's drop in offensive production and age are likely playing a role in him still being a UFA. Yet, the possibility of the 35-year-old forward getting signed before the start of the season should not be ruled out. He could be a solid addition for a team that is looking for more scoring in their bottom six and experience.
With the Bruins having so many forwards, it seems very unlikely that they would consider reuniting with Smith. Although this is the case, there could be some NHL clubs out there willing to take a chance on him as a bounce-back candidate. It will be interesting to see if he can find a new home from here.
