With NHL training camps almost here, former Bruins forward James van Riemsdyk has still not been signed.
Now that it is September, NHL training camps are right around the corner.
While this is the case, there are still many unrestricted free agents who are looking for their new homes. Among the top free agent forwards left is former Boston Bruins winger James van Riemsdyk.
van Riemsdyk spent last season with the Detroit Red Wings, where he recorded 15 goals, 31 points, and a minus-17 rating. Overall, he provided Detroit with some secondary scoring during his one-year deal. But will that be enough for the former Bruin to land a contract from an NHL team before the start of the season?
With it now being September, van Riemsdyk may need to settle for a professional tryout (PTO) agreement before the start of the season. Given his plethora of experience, it would not be too surprising if another NHL team gave him a chance on a PTO.
With the Bruins having plenty of forwards, it seems unlikely that they will consider reuniting with van Riemsdyk. Yet, he could be a good pickup for a club that needs more forward depth.
van Riemsdyk spent the 2023-24 season as a member of the Bruins, where he posted 11 goals, 27 assists, 38 points, and a plus-7 rating.
