Milan Lucic Taking Indefinite Leave Following Alleged Domestic Incident

Milan Lucic is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the Boston Bruins following an alleged incident of domestic abuse on Friday.

According to WCVB’s Duke Castiglione and 5 Investigates Karen Anderson, Lucic was arrested Saturday morning in Boston.

“We’re aware of the ‘Looch’ situation, and as an organization that’s something we take extremely seriously,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said Saturday following the Bruins’ morning skate.

“‘Looch’ is taking a leave of absence from the team right now. We support the Lucic family and we will continue to provide support and help for the Lucic family.”

The veteran winger returned to the Bruins this summer after signing a one-year, $1 million contract with the team in July.

Lucic was placed on the long-term injured list in October due to an ankle injury and played in only four games this season, last skating on Oct. 21 against the Los Angeles Kings

Boston is preparing to host the Montreal Canadiens at TD Garden Saturday night.

“Our culture here is great and we care about each other, right? With that, it’s not a normal day. But, we’re professionals and we have a game to play tonight. We have to get ready for that,” Montgomery said.

Captain Brad Marchand has been a long-time teammate of Lucic, spanning back to the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning squad, and he spoke to the media following the news.

“We’re obviously aware of what happened last night with ‘Looch.’ The biggest thing for us is we care a lot about their family,” Marchand said. “We are family in here, we’re all very very close, so we’re obviously concerned and upset for them and what they’re going through. We have a lot of support for Brittany and the kids and for ‘Looch’ himself.”

Marchand said the incident has “obviously” had an effect on the room, but they are trying to refocus on the game in front of them while offering the Lucic family “all the support in the world.”

“We don’t really have any details, we don’t really know a whole lot about what’s happened, what’s gone on,” Marchand said. “So it’s very hard to comment on much of it. But obviously I’ve known ‘Looch’ for a long time, he’s a very good friend and it’s tough to see your teammates and your friends going through stuff like this – and their family.”
