This Bruins defender could end up being a solid pickup for the Black and Gold.

Earlier this week, the Boston Bruins claimed defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok off of waivers from the Dallas Stars. The Bruins' decision to bring him in was understandable, as they have been dealing with multiple injuries on their blueline.

Overall, there is absolutely no harm in the Bruins claiming Kolyachonok off waivers. At a minimum, he will serve as a solid depth defenseman for the Bruins. However, the possibility of him being a surprise for the Black and Gold should not be ruled out.

At just 24 years old, there is still a chance that Kolyachonok can hit a new level for the Bruins as he continues to gain experience. He has been praised for his puck-moving ability, and it is fair to wonder if he could give the Bruins a bit of offense from the point because of it. It also does not hurt that he is 6-foot-2, as he will now provide the Bruins' blueline with more size.

If Kolyachonok can take that next step and become a nice part of the Bruins' blueline, it would certainly be good news for a Boston club that could always use more depth on their blueline. Time will tell what happens on that front, but it is hard not to like this low-risk move for the Bruins.

In 85 career NHL games, Kolyochonok has posted five goals, 12 assists, and 17 points.
