Another former Boston Bruins forward is calling it a career.
While speaking with Castanet Kamloops' Tyler Lowey, former Boston Bruins forward Riley Nash announced that he has officially retired from professional hockey.
"It’s official — I’m retiring," Nash said to Lowey. "It is definitely something weird to say and it hasn’t really sunk in yet, even though I basically had all of last year away from the rink, but this year will still be weird. This is all I’ve done and focused on for the past 30 years, but now is the time to end this chapter or book and look at what’s next."
Nash missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury. This was after Nash posted 11 goals and 27 points in 41 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack the season before. He also played his final NHL game with the New York Rangers during the 2023-24 season, recording one hit and one shot.
Nash spent the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons as a member of the Bruins. In 157 games over that span with the Original Six club, he posted 22 goals, 36 assists, 58 points, and a plus-15 rating. He also put together the best season of his NHL career with the Bruins in 2017-18, as he set career highs with 15 goals, 26 assists, and 41 points in 76 games. This led to Nash landing a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2018 NHL off-season.
In 628 games over 12 seasons split between the Carolina Hurricanes, Bruins, Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, and Rangers, Nash recorded 63 goals, 113 assists, 176 points, and 637 hits.
NHL Free Agency: 3 Former Bruins Still Looking For New Homes
Free agency around the NHL has certainly slowed down now that we are a week into July. Although this is the case, there are still some unrestricted free agents (UFAs) left. Interestingly, a few of them are former Boston Bruins players.
