Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is one of the NHL's top pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) as we continue to get closer to July 1. However, the possibility of him re-signing with the Florida Panthers before then is certainly there, as both sides have expressed interest in getting a new deal done.
Since the Bruins traded Marchand to the Panthers at this year's deadline, many questioned if the Original Six team would try to reunite with him if he becomes a UFA on July 1. Now, we have an update on that front.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins are one of the teams hoping to talk with Marchand if he hits the market on July 1, and they are open to bringing him back to Boston. LeBrun also noted that the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested, and that the Panthers are still in the race.
Hearing that the Bruins are open to a potential reunion with Marchand is understandable. He is one of the biggest legends in their franchise history, and he showed this post-season with the Panthers that he can still be a legitimate star. Thus, it would be massive if the Bruins brought him back to their top six, especially when noting that management is hoping they are back to being a playoff team in 2025-26.
The Bruins are entering this off-season with plenty of cap space, so they certainly could afford to bring back Marchand. However, time will tell what happens with the veteran winger from here.
