Matt Poitras scored the first two goals of his career to overcome a 1-0 deficit in the third period and keep the Boston Bruins undefeated through five games.

Matt Poitras scored twice in the third period to help the Boston Bruins defeat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Sunday and remain undefeated.

Poitras’ goals were the first two of his NHL career, coming in his fifth game, and Linus Ullmark made 31 saves for Boston (5-0-0).

Jake DeBrusk rang a shot off the post on a short-handed breakaway at 1:10 of the first period. He returned to the lineup after he was scratched from Saturday’s win against the Los Angeles Kings for being late to a team meeting.

The Bruins killed off that penalty, a Brad Marchand cross-check just 29 seconds into the game, and both teams were perfect on the penalty kill. Boston went 3-for-3 on the night, while Anaheim killed off all five of their penalties.

With no score through two periods, Ducks forward Mason McTavish broke the tie at 5:05 of the third period, chipping the puck into the offensive zone, feeding Ryan Strome on the 2-on-1 and rebounding Strome’s shot.

Then, Poitras put his mark on the game.

Just 84 seconds after McTavish scored, Poitras tied it by burying Morgan Geekie’s backhanded feed from the goal line. He gave Boston the lead at 10:20, rebounding DeBrusk’s shot past Anaheim goalie John Gibson after screening him on the doorstep.

Brad Marchand added an empty-net goal at 17:26 for the 3-1 final.
