Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse is reportedly open to playing for the Bruins.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse is one of the NHL's top trade candidates this off-season. The veteran blueliner would like a change of scenery, while the Oilers want to move on from his expensive $9.25 million cap hit.

While Nurse has a full no-movement clause, he has a list of teams that he is willing to accept a trade to. According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Boston Bruins are now one of them.

"More on Nurse: As we know, Pittsburgh, LA and Philly are in his trade list. You can add Boston to his list, as well," Pagnotta posted on X.

Nurse being open to joining the Bruins is interesting, but would he be a fit on their roster? While the Oilers' left-shot defenseman is a solid top-four defenseman when playing his best, the Bruins' top needs right now are a first-line center and a top-four right-shot defenseman.

Nurse would also be a long-term and expensive addition if acquired by the Bruins, as he is entering the fifth season of his eight-year, $74 million contract in 2026-27. With the Bruins having more significant needs, taking on this kind of contract for a left-shot defenseman like Nurse would not make much sense.

In 82 games last season with the Oilers, Nurse had seven goals, 17 assists, 24 points, and a minus-12 rating.
