BRIGHTON, MA -- The Boston Bruins saw over half their division involved in massive blockbusters over the last few days, with the division loading up to try and be the team that unseats the Carolina Hurricanes as Stanley Cup Champions.

So far, the only move Boston's made has been sending Andre Gasseau's signing rights to the San Jose Sharks.

Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney met with the media on Wednesday before the draft, and provided insight into whether or not the moves in the Atlantic Division has changed his thinking.

"I think we are extremely competitive," Sweeney said. "It doesn't overwhelm us."

Sweeney then highlighted he felt his team needs to improve, despite the confidence expressed.

That alone silences a lot of talk. Sweeney then confirmed his top priority with Pavel Zacha is to extend the would-be 2027 UFA.

Sweeney revealed that the Bruins continue to talk with pending UFAs Viktor Arvidsson and Andrew Peeke, but nothing's gotten done.

"There's interest from both sides,” Sweeney said. “[We] just haven't found an agreeable term and AAV."

Sweeney said the 23rd overall pick is in play to be traded, too.

"It's always on the table to be honest with you," Sweeney confirmed.

Sweeney furthered talks of the Bruins being "competitively driven," a phrase that the Bruins brass has been consistent in their use of as they look to cement their place in the playoff mix for the Atlantic Division.

Sweeney defended his team's current center outlook, stating he likes where the team is, and feels they cover their gaps by committee.

However, he did once again say the right-side of Boston's defense is a priority for the Bruins to address.

Sweeney revealed "one or two" of the Bruins' pending RFAs will not be qualified, but refused to get specific in any way.

When pressed further about former first-round pick Fabian Lysell, Sweeney refused to comment.
