The Bruins' decision not to trade this forward is paying off early this season.
The Boston Bruins have had a very strong start to the 2026-27 season.
Matthew Poitras has certainly been one of the reasons for the Bruins' good start, as he has been excellent early on. In seven games so far this season for Boston, Poitras has posted four goals, six points, and a plus-5 rating.
Heading into the season, Poitras was viewed by some as a potential odd man out for the Bruins. He was also the subject of trade rumors since last season. Yet, with the way Poitras is playing right now, he is proving to the Bruins that they dodged a major bullet by not trading him this off-season.
Poitras is demonstrating clear signs of breaking out early on this campaign. He is also not slowing down in the slightest. The 22-year-old forward is currently on a four-game point streak, where he has posted three goals and an assist over that span. With this, Poitras is quickly emerging as one of Boston's key forwards, which is awesome to see.
Poitras is starting to become a key offensive contributor for Boston. Thus, the Bruins' decision to give him another chance is looking like a great one early on.
It will now be interesting to see if Poitras can keep this kind of play going from here. With the way he has been playing, it is hard to bet against him.
