Last off-season, the Boston Bruins signed forward Mikey Eyssimont to a two-year, $2.9 million contract in free agency. The expectation was that he would be a key part of Boston's bottom six.

However, due to the Bruins' surplus of bottom-six forwards, Eyssimont was often the odd-man out last season for the Original Six club. He played in just 56 regular-season games for Boston in 2025-26, where he recorded eight goals, 18 points, and 54 hits. He also played in only two playoff games for Boston, where he was held off the scoresheet. 

Just like last season, the Bruins are entering the 2026-27 campaign with a crowded forward group when it comes to their bottom six. They also have young forwards like James Hagens and Lukas Reichel who will be fighting for spots in the lineup.

Because of this, Eyssimont could end up having trouble getting into the Bruins' lineup often next season. With that, it is fair to argue that he could benefit from a trade at this juncture. 

There are likely teams out there who would be interested in acquiring Eyssimont, as he is a high-energy forward who provides grit. He also demonstrated some offensive skill in the past, posting 11 goals and 25 points in 81 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2023-24. 

Furthermore, Eyssimont's $1.45 million cap hit is a bit high for him to be an extra forward for Boston. Thus, a trade could make sense for both the player and the team at this point.
