This Bruins prospect needs to be watched very closely.
With the 79th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Boston Bruins selected forward Cooper Simpson. This was after the skilled winger dominated high school hockey in Minnesota, posting 49 goals and 83 points in 31 games for Shakopee High School during the 2024-25 season. He also played in nine USHL games with the Tri-City Storm that campaign, recording seven goals and an assist.
When looking at the promise Simpson showed in his draft year, it makes sense that the Bruins took a gamble on him with their third-round pick. He then followed that up by thriving in the USHL this past season with the Youngstown Phantoms.
In 61 games for the Phantoms last season, Simpson posted an impressive 34 goals, 40 assists, and 74 points. With numbers like these, the Shakopee, Minnesota native showed great promise.
When at the offensive numbers Simpson has put together in the USHL, it is hard not to be optimistic about his future. The Bruins have found a fascinating prospect here, and it will now be interesting to see what he can do at the collegiate level with the University of North Dakota next season.
If Simpson can translate the success he had in the USHL to the NCAA, it would be huge for the Bruins. Right now he is standing out among Boston's most promising prospects.
