Michael DiPietro is expected to finally get his long overdue chance with the Boston Bruins next season.

With the Bruins trading Joonas Korpisalo to the New York Rangers, DiPietro now has a big chance in front of him to take over Boston's backup goalie spot. When looking at the way he has played in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, it is certainly earned. 

DiPietro was fantastic for Providence in 2024-25, as he recorded a 26-8-5 record, a .927 save percentage, and a 2.05 goals-against average. With how well he played that season for Providence, he was named AHL Goalie of the Year. 

Yet, as great as DiPietro was in 2024-25, he was even better this past season with the AHL club. In 45 appearances with Providence last season, he posted a 34-8-1 record, a .930 save percentage, and a 1.91 goals-against average. With this, he won AHL Goalie of the Year for the second year in a row. 

Given how spectacularly DiPietro has played over the last two seasons with Providence, it is clear that he is a breakout candidate to watch for Boston next season. He has a golden opportunity to prove that he can be an NHL-caliber goaltender now that Korpisalo is gone.

If DiPietro can be a solid backup to Jeremy Swayman, it would be good news for a Bruins club that will be looking to take another step forward next season. It will be interesting to see how much DiPietro can translate his wonderful AHL play to the NHL level from here.
