The Boston Bruins will soon be starting their training camp with the 2026-27 season almost here.
One player who fans should watch incredibly closely during training camp is the pre-season is prospect defenseman Frederic Brunet.
While the Bruins' blueline heading into training camp is crowded, the possibility of Brunet making the NHL roster should not be ruled out. The 23-year-old defenseman has continued to get better over the last few seasons with the Providence Bruins. Furthermore, Brunet now requires waivers to be sent down to Providence before the season, so the Original Six club may not want to risk potentially losing him for nothing.
When looking at Brunet's 2025-26 season with Providence, it is clear that he warrants real consideration for Boston's NHL roster. In 65 games last season with the AHL club, he posted 12 goals, 24 assists, 36 points, and a plus-18 rating. With numbers like these, the 6-foot-2 blueliner was very good for Providence.
With all of this, Brunet is exactly the kind of prospect who Bruins fans should be watching incredibly closely. The potential for the 2022 fifth-round pick to take that next step and emerge as an NHL-caliber defenseman is there. Due to this, it will be intriguing to see if he can earn a spot on Boston's opening night roster.
