The Boston Bruins have made multiple moves this off-season. 

Their most notable, however, was acquiring forward JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for two first-round picks. While the Bruins gave up a significant trade package to land Peterka, he has the potential to be exactly what the Bruins need in their lineup.

It is no secret that the Bruins needed another skilled top-six winger in their lineup, and Peterka is going to provide them with just that. He has scored at least 25 goals in each of the last three seasons, with 28 being his career high.

While Peterka had a down year by his standards in 2025-26 with the Mammoth, he still recorded 47 points in 82 games. Yet, when noting that he had 27 goals and 68 points in 77 games with the Buffalo Sabres just back in 2024-25, it is clear that he has the potential to bounce back. 

If Peterka regains his 2024-25 form with the Bruins, he will end up being a significant addition to their roster. There is no question that they need more offense in their top six, and he should give them that. This will especially be the case if he has superstar forward David Pastrnak feeding him the puck on Boston's first line. 

Also, at just 24 years old, Peterka is still plenty young enough that he could hit a new level. Perhaps getting a fresh start on a Bruins club that should give him plenty of opportunities could help him emerge as a true first-line talent. The possibility certainly should not be ruled out.
