What will the Bruins do with Pavel Zacha?

The Boston Bruins have had a very good start to the 2026-27 season, evidenced by their 7-2-0 record.

While the Bruins are impressing early on, questions about Pavel Zacha's future in Boston are continuing to come up. The 29-year-old forward is a pending unrestricted free agent and is expecting a significant raise from his current $4.75 million cap hit.

But will the Bruins end up being the team that gives him it?

The Bruins will need to decide if Zacha is a player they are comfortable paying a significantly higher salary. If they are not and/or negotiations do not go well, the Bruins may have no choice but to move Zacha before the 2027 NHL Trade Deadline.

Zacha would be too valuable of a player to potentially lose for nothing during the off-season. Thus, he could be exactly the kind of trade chip that the Bruins include in a trade package to upgrade their roster elsewhere.

This is something that Boston has already been reportedly open to doing, too. According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins included Zacha in trade conversations with the Columbus Blue Jackets about Kirill Marchenko before the Toronto Maple Leafs won the sweepstakes. Thus, the possibility of Boston dangling Zacha again can't be ruled out.

Ultimately, the Bruins are going to have a big decision to make with Zacha one way or another. He isn't a player that they should let walk for nothing this summer. It will be interesting to see if they can lock him up to a contract extension. If not, Boston will need to decide whether or not they will trade him.
