If the Bruins were to lose this game in regulation, the Canadiens would be three points ahead of them. The Red Wings, on the other hand, would stay ahead of the Bruins. Ultimately, with the playoff race being incredibly close in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins cannot afford to squander golden opportunities like this matchup against the Canadiens. This is especially so when noting that the Columbus Blue Jackets are also only two points behind the Bruins with a game in hand.
