The Buffalo Sabres have acquired Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Matt Savoie.

Savoie, 20, was selected by the Sabres with the ninth overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The expectation was that he would become a long-term part of the Sabres' top six. However, that hope can now be forgotten as he is heading to Edmonton.

Savoie had a monster year in the WHL split between the Wenatchee Wild and Moose Jaw Warriors, posting 30 goals and 71 points in 34 games. He also appeared in his first NHL game with the Sabres and had two goals and five points in six games with the Rochester Americans.

McLeod, 24, is coming off a solid year with the Oilers, posting 12 goals, 30 points, and a plus-10 rating in 81 regular-season games. He also had four goals and a minus-7 rating in 24 playoff games for Edmonton.

McLeod should compete for the 3C spot on the Sabres' roster and will likely become a key part of their penalty kill.

As for Tullio, he appeared in 54 games last season with the Bakersfield Condors, posting nine goals and 21 points.
