Former Sabre Taylor Hall scored the game-winner in Carolina's 5-2 victory over Washington on Monday. Whenever Team USA has played at the IIHF World Championships, a shutout has occurred. In their first two games against Denmark and Hungary, the Americans have outscored the opposition 11-0, but the tables were turned on Thursday, as Switzerland shutout the US 3-0.
Leonardo Genoni made 23 saves in the victory for Switzerland, moving the US to 2-1 in the tournament and into fourth place in Group B. Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson had no shots on goal in 14:38 of ice time in the game.
