During this past off-season, former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour signed a seven-year, $50 million contract with the Seattle Kraken in free agency. This was after the former Sabre posted eight goals and 33 points in 66 games with the Florida Panthers this past season. He also had 11 points in 24 playoff games during the Panthers' Stanley Cup championship run.
As expected, Montour has been a big piece of the Kraken's blueline since his arrival. In 67 games this campaign, the 6-foot defenseman has 16 goals and 38 points. However, he is heating up significantly as of late.
Montour was recently named the NHL's Third Star of the Week from March 10 to March 16 because of his excellent play. It is understandable, as he has three goals and six points over his last three games. Before then, he was already hot, too, as he has six goals and 10 points in his previous eight contests.
Montour can provide plenty of offense from the point when playing at his best, and the Kraken are certainly getting that right now. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his hot streak from here, but he is showing no signs of slowing down.
Montour spent three seasons with the Sabres from 2018-19 to 2020-21, where he had 13 goals, 42 points, and 127 hits in 112 games.
