Big winger has seven points in 12 games with Rochester

Sabres - Coyotes Game Preview

The Buffalo Sabres made a roster move on Monday with forwards Zemgus Girgensons, Alex Tuch, and Jordan Greenway still on injured reserve, sending winger Isak Rosen back to the Rochester Americans of the AHL and calling up winger Brett Murray.

The 20-year-old Rosen, Buffalo’s 14th overall pick in 2021, went scoreless in seven NHL games after being called up in late November and played just 4:12 in the Sabres 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal on Saturday.

"I thought (Isak) was real good. He showed a sense of objective awareness, positional awareness, some of his identity, but he (needs to get) just a little bit stronger and a little more assertive." Sabres head coach Don Granato said. "I actually met with him yesterday to talk about 'you're gonna come back at some point. Let's talk about how we expect you to become better because of this experience'. It was a good conversation. He's an intelligent kid and I think he will use this first-time experience, to be able to take a step back, breathe a bit and hone in on how he can be more impactful upon (his) next arrival."

Murray, 25, scored a career-high 49 points with the Amerks last season and had seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 12 AHL games. The 6’5”, 228 lb. winger also has four years of pro experience and 21 NHL games under his belt, which was a factor in his promotion.

"I'm excited that (he will get) another opportunity to see where he's at with his game. I know that he's continued to add to his game." Granato said. "(The) reports we have is he's continued to progress and do a little bit down there, but (it's) a good opportunity for him. Without Tuch, without Greenway, we did add Robinson, but it gives us a little bit more size."
