Robinson's major for boarding led to Montreal taking second-period lead

The Buffalo Sabres had many early opportunities with the man advantage in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, including three of their five power plays in the first period. As is normally the case, the officials always try to balance out the chances in a game, and the Canadiens got their opportunity midway through the second period when Buffalo’s Eric Robinson hit Montreal defenseman Justin Barron behind the net.
Robinson was given a five-minute boarding major and game misconduct for the hit, which sent Barron temporarily to the Montreal dressing room. The Canadiens got on the scoreboard with Jayden Struble scoring with one second left in a four-on-four (because Kaiden Guhle was assessed a minor for retaliating) and Nick Suzuki increased the lead with a power-play goal 14 seconds later.
After the game, Sabres team captain Kyle Okposo railed against the inconsistent officiating in the league, citing specifically a hit on Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin by former teammate Evander Kane.
"I was telling (referee Trevor Hanson), we're having a conversation out there. I don't understand how Evander Kane gets nothing last night and then there's a five-minute penalty (on Robinson). It doesn't make any sense." Okposo said. "It's the exact same play. There's an injury on the play. I understand he has to call it, that's fine. That's not on him. I just don't like the consistency factor. That's literally the identical play with zero penalty, and then one with the five and a game (misconduct), (it) doesn't make sense."
