
Sportico ranks Buffalo 30th among the 32 NHL clubs in current valuation

The Buffalo Sabres were purchased by current owners Terry and Kim Pegula in 2011 from Tom Golisano for $189 million. A dozen years later, the club's value has increased nearly five times, according to Sportico.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are ranked as the highest-valued franchise at $2.65 billion, with four of the five other Original Six clubs (New York, Montreal, Chicago, and Boston) making up the rest of the top five.
The average value of NHL clubs went up to $1.31 billion and 22 of the 32 teams are valued at over $1 billion. Buffalo’s franchise value went up an impressive 42% since last year’s valuation, exceeded only by Florida, Columbus, and Ottawa, but the club’s ranking among the league members went from 28th to 30th at an estimated $900 million.
Only the Blue Jackets ($880 million) and Arizona Coyotes ($675 million) are listed at a lower value, due mostly to the size of the market In the case of Columbus and the lack of an NHL-size building in the Phoenix area.
