The Sabres still need a top-six forward and should call the Flyers because of it.
The Buffalo Sabres have made plenty of additions to their forward group this offseason. Newcomers Jason Zucker, Sam Lafferty, Beck Malenstyn, Ryan McLeod, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel should strengthen the Sabres' lineup, but none of them are true answers for the Sabres' need for a top-six winger. Thus, GM Kevyn Adams may not be done yet.
When looking at potential trade targets for the Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee stands out big time.
Farabee, 24, has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason, but he remains with the Flyers. However, with the Flyers rebuilding and having plenty of solid wingers, they could move Farabee for the right price. The Flyers also could view the Sabres as an ideal trading partner, as Buffalo has an array of top prospects that could fit perfectly on a rebuilding team like Philly. Adams also showed earlier this offseason that he is not afraid to trade top prospects, as he dealt Matt Savoie to the Oilers to land McLeod and Ty Tullio.
There is no question that Farabee would be a clear fit in the Sabres' top six if acquired. When looking at a specific spot for him in Buffalo's lineup, he could be a perfect addition to their second line with Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn. Along with this, Farabee would provide the Sabres with another excellent option for their power play.
Ultimately, Farabee is a perfect target for the Sabres. The Syracuse, New York native is a young forward who has already proven he can score in this league, and he still may not have hit his ceiling yet. In addition, he is under contract until the end of the 2027-28 season, carrying a $5 million cap hit. His contract also does not carry any trade protection, making things easier in potential trade talks.
In 82 games last season with the Flyers, Farabee posted new career highs with 22 goals, 28 assists, and 50 points.
