The Buffalo Sabres continued their organizational reshuffling that began with the hiring of head coach Lindy Ruff, the promotion of Seth Appert to the NHL coaching staff, adding Michael Leone as bench boss of the AHL Rochester Americans, and the hiring of former NCAA head coach Chris Bergeron to their scouting department with the announcement on Tuesday that director of amateur scouting Jerry Forton has been promoted to assistant GM under Kevyn Adams.
Forton has been with the Sabres since 2013 in various capacities, including an assistant coach, assistant director of scouting, and director of collegiate scouting, and has served as the club’s director of amateur scouting the last four seasons. According to a press release announcing the promotion, he will oversee both the amateur and pro scouting departments in his new role.
“I am thrilled to announce that Jerry Forton has been promoted to assistant general manager,” Adams said. “His steady commitment to the Sabres organization and exemplary work ethic have played a pivotal role in the success of our staff over the years. I know that the ongoing positive influence he will undoubtedly exert in his new role will continue to serve as a driving force in our organization.”
The club also announced they will hold their development camp at Lecom Harborcenter from Monday, July 1 to Thursday, July 4. The four-day camp will include practices with the organization’s prospects (including those selected at the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas later this month) and will include a three-on-three tournament on July 4th.
