Sportico has Buffalo more valuable than only Winnipeg and Columbus
All 32 NHL franchises are worth collectively over $57 billion, and each franchise has exceeded $1 billion in value, including the Buffalo Sabres. According to the sports business website Sportico, the Sabres are ranked 30th in the NHL for $1.13 billion, ahead of only the Winnipeg Jets ($1.1 billion) and Columbus Blue Jackets ($1.06 billion).
The Sabres ranked 30th and were one of 10 NHL clubs valued under $1 billion, increasing by $113 million from $900 million in 2023, $495 million from 2022, and $530 million from 2021. Owner Terry Pegula purchased the club from Tom Golisano in 2011 for $189 million.
Sportico determines the value according to “the sum of the enterprise value of an NHL franchise, combined with the value of team-related businesses and real estate holdings”.
Buffalo’s Eastern Conference rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NY Rangers, were ranked as the top two most valuable franchises, with Toronto at $3.66 billion and New York at $3.25 billion. Atlantic Division rival Montreal ranked 3rd at $2.93 billion, Boston ranked 4th at $2.67 billion, Detroit 10th at $1.85 billion, Tampa Bay 11th at $1.8 billion, Florida 26th at $1.25 billion, and Ottawa 29th at $1.14 billion.
