The Buffalo Sabres kick off their regular season on Oct. 4 when they face off against the New Jersey Devils in their first game of the 2024 NHL Global Series.

The Sabres are entering the 2024-25 season with a "playoffs or bust" mentality. It is understandable, as they extended their playoff drought to 13 years last campaign. While they took a step in the wrong direction last season, the new campaign offers a clean slate, and they will now look to take advantage.

If the Sabres are to officially take that next step and become a playoff team again, they will need to their top players to play at their best levels. Dylan Cozens is one Sabre looking to have a bounce-back season and when looking at his past success, he undoubtedly can.

During the 2022-23 season, Cozens broke out in a big way, recording career highs with 31 goals, 37 assists, and 68 points in 81 games. However, during this past season, his production dropped, as he had 18 goals and 47 points in 79 games. While this was not necessarily bad offense from the young star, he has the potential to provide more.

When looking at the Sabres' depth chart, Cozens is set to have a big role in their lineup. He is expected to be their second-line center and should get plenty of reps on their power play. Because of this, he should be put in a position to succeed in 2024-25 with Buffalo. It will be intriguing to see if he takes advantage of it.

If Cozens regains his 2022-23 form, the Sabres are going to be a far more difficult team to go up against. When noting that he is just 23 years old, he not only has the potential to bounce back but also hit a new level.
