The 2023-24 season was another rough year for the Buffalo Sabres. They extended their playoff drought to 13 years in a campaign where they were expected to take another step forward.

While it was a disappointing season for the Sabres, they did have some bright spots. One was Zach Benson, as the 2023 first-round pick immediately cemented himself as an everyday NHL player. In 71 games for the Sabres during his rookie campaign, he posted 11 goals and 30 points.

Overall, it was a solid first season for Benson, especially when noting that he was 18 years old for the entirety of it (he turned 19 on May 12). Due to this, he is easily the Sabres' top breakout candidate for the 2024-25 season.

Benson showed in his rookie campaign that he has the potential to become a very impactful forward in the NHL. When looking at the Sabres' current forward group, he also has a great chance of being in their top six and seeing plenty of power-play time. Because of this, his offensive totals could significantly improve next season.

It is hard not to feel plenty of excitement about Benson heading into 2024-25. As a rookie, he proved to be one of the Sabres' top secondary offensive producers last season, and he has the skill and tenacity to take a big jump from here.
