Tuch Skates But Is Not Ready, Luukkonen Cleared To Return

The Buffalo Sabres are slowly getting some of their injured and ill players back into the lineup, and will likely have at least two and perhaps three back when they start their Western road trip in Denver on Wednesday.

Winger Alex Tuch joined the club for the morning skate at Key Bank Center on Monday prior to their game against the Arizona Coyotes. Head coach Don Granato said later that despite Tuch’s participation, they would be cautious and hold off on inserting him in the lineup.

Tuch, who has 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 22 games, was placed on IR after a hamstring injury suffered on December 3rd vs. Nashville, which allowed the 27-year-old forward to be there with his wife Kylie for the birth of his son Tripp.

Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen took part in on-ice activities for the second time since falling ill last week and head coach Don Granato said he is good and pretty much back.

Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson left the skate early due to some soreness, which could put his playing on Monday in doubt.

There was no update on wingers Jordan Greenway and Zaemgus Girgensons. The recall of big winger Brett Murray would indicate that they do not believe that either will be available to start the three-game Western trip starting against Colorado.
