Former Buffalo Sabres goalie Linus Ullmark is on the move inside the Atlantic Division again, as the Vezina Trophy winner was dealt by the Boston Bruins to the Ottawa Senators for a 2024 first-round pick (25th overall), center Mark Kastelic, and goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
The deal announced just before the start of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, ends months of speculation regarding the destination of the 30-year-old netminder, who lost his starting job to Jeremy Swayman in the Stanley Cup Playoffs during their first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ullmark played his first six seasons in Buffalo before signing with the Bruins as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. He won the Vezina Trophy with a 40-6-1 record, 1.89 GAA, and .938 save percentage in 2023, and split time with Swayman last season, going 22-10-7, with a 2.55 GAA and .915 save percentage.

The 30-year-old was entering the final year of a four-year, $20 million deal and with Swayman expected to get a big pay raise after an excellent postseason performance, Bruins GM Don Sweeney needed to clear cap space to play the 25-year-old restricted free agent.
Ottawa was seeking an upgrade in goal after Korpisalo after he disappointed (21-26-4, 3.27 GAA, .890 save percentage) in the first year of a five-year, $20 million free agent deal. The Senators retained 25% of Korpisalo’s $4 million cap hit, and sent the 25-year-old Kastelic (who had 10 points in 63 games last season) and the Bruins 2024 first-round pick, that was sent to Detroit in the Tyler Bertuzzi deal in 2023 and dealt to Ottawa in the Alex DeBrincat deal last July.
