A suitor for Victor Olofsson appears to have emerged.
Buffalo Sabres forward Victor Olofsson is no stranger to the rumor mill. The Sabres actively looked to move the winger during the offseason, but there were no takers. However, now that the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is almost here, the chances of Olofsson being dealt as a rental are certainly increasing. This is especially so if the Sabres make it clear that they are open to retaining a portion of his salary.
A new suitor for Olofsson has appeared because of this. According to The Fourth Period, the Colorado Avalanche are currently linked to the 2014 seventh-round pick.
Hearing that the Avalanche are looking at Olofsson is understandable. One of their objectives at the deadline is to add to their forward group. Adding a center is a necessity for them, but they could also use a bit more scoring in their bottom six. That is something Olofsson would give them if he turned his game back around.
Olofsson, 28, has appeared in 33 games this season for the Sabres, where he has four goals, eight assists, and a plus-3 rating. It has been a rough season for him, and his limited playing time is a big reason for that. With that, he is no longer a regular in their lineup, as he appeared in just three games for the club in January.
While the Avalanche expressing interest in Olofsson does not mean he will inevitably be dealt there, this is something to keep an eye on over these few weeks. Furthermore, when we start seeing more of the big-name forwards get dealt, perhaps his trade market will increase.
