Canada has one open roster spot, which could be reserved for a player not yet released by his club

Team Canada announced their roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships on Wednesday and Buffalo Sabres prospects Matthew Savoie and Scott Ratzlaff were selected.

Savoie, 19, who was demoted to the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League last month, has 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 11 games this season and is considered a shoo-in to be on Canada’s top line.
Ratzlaff, 18, was selected 141st overall and is 8-10-1, with a 3.39 GAA and .889 save percentage in 20 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL, and was chosen along with Halifax’s Mathis Rousseau, and Sherbrooke’s Samuel St-Hilaire.
Canada’s roster has only 22 players (12 forwards, seven defensemen and three goalies), leaving one spot open for a player currently not released by his NHL club. Names such as Columbus forward Adam Fantilli. Boston’s Matthew Poitras, Chicago defenseman Kevin Korchinski, and Sabres 2023 top pick Zach Benson could be an option for Canada if they are made available before the roster submission deadline.
