Martin Pospisil has served his time and is ready to be back in the Calgary Flames lineup when they play host to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
Pospisil was suspended for all three games of the club’s recent road trip, which ended with beatdowns on consecutive days by a combined 12-3 score and has him champing at the bit even more.
“It’s not much fun just watching games. You can’t really help the team when you’re not on the ice,” Pospisil said after the morning skate in anticipation of the Colorado clash.
The rookie Flames pest, who has collected six goals, 14 points and 72 penalty minutes in 45 games, received his suspension for a check from behind on Seattle Kraken defenceman Vince Dunn late in a 4-2 loss on March 4.
“I’m still young in this league and learning. It’s a good lesson. I’ll move on and be a little smarter,” Pospisil, 24, said.
“You can’t hit a guy from behind. That wasn’t a clean hit. I want to play physical, play hard, and play clean.
“I hope he’s Ok and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
His rambunctious game has great value, but Posipisil definitely crossed the line with a hit from which Dunn is yet to return to action.
“What makes him a good player is the way he plays the game,” said coach Ryan Huska. “That’s something we don’t want to take away from him because he brings a lot of people into the game. You have to learn what is the line. ... He’ll be better, for sure.”
