

Hunter Brzustewicz has taken a big step forward in his NHL aspirations by signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
Brzustewicz, 19, was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in the Elias Lindholm trade on Jan. 31.
“Hunter is a player that we coveted in his draft year and is having another outstanding season in Kitchener again this year,” Flames general manager Craig Conroy said via statement. “He moves well and sees the ice with great vision and hockey sense. As a right shot defenceman, Hunter provides us with a highly regarded skill set.”
Brzustewicz, has has collected 12 goals and a league-high 73 assists for the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers. He was drafted by the Canucks in the third round, 75th overall, in 2023.
Calgary also received forward Andrei Kuzmenko, prospect defenceman Joni Jurmo, this year’s first-round draft pick and a conditional fourth-round selection — which could be a third-rounder if the Canucks make the conference final.
