Calgary remains active on the opening day of free agency, extending forward Yegor Sharangovich.

After it was announced Anthony Mantha would be a Flame, Calgary announced they have extended forward Yegor Sharangovich to a 5-year deal at $5.75 million per year.

The 26-year-old forward from Belarus was one of the few bright spots for Calgary this past season. Sharangovich posted career highs in goals (31) and assists (28) and also posted 11 powerplay points. He ended up leading Calgary in goals, narrowly edging out Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri.

While many expected it would Jonathan Huberdeau who would step up and lead the forward group, it was Sharangovich who showed the most promise. At just 26, Sharangovich's extension shows the faith Calgary has in him and part of the reason they traded for him from New Jersey.

Sharangovich has one more year on his current deal and the extension will kick in starting the 2025-26 season. As Craig Conroy works to figure out the right pieces for Calgary's future, Sharangovich's performance made an extension a no-brainer and he will be a central part of Calgary's quest back to the top of the Pacific Division.
