The Calgary Flames play the St. Louis Blues twice in three nights; Tuesday night is game one.

Even with former Calgary Flames d-man Noah Hanifin, the Vegas Golden Knights will be in tough to win the Pacific Division

The Calgary Flames (21-14-7) arrive in St. Louis for one of the season's most important stretch of games. After a big win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, the Flames face the St. Louis Blues in game one of a two-game set, with the other scheduled for Thursday.

Considering how tight the Western Conference wildcard race is, these two games could be crucial for an advantage down the stretch. Moreover, the Flames come into tonight on a three-game win streak, looking to avenge an earlier season loss, 4-3 in overtime, on Dec. 5.

As mentioned, the Flames defeated Chicago last night, 5-2, while the Blues have been idle since Saturday, when they lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1.

Calgary is 6-3-1 in its last ten games, while St. Louis is 5-4-1. The two clubs are separated by five points in the Western Conference standings.

Between the Pipes

Dan Vladar is back in the net tonight. He last played on Jan. 2 against the Utah Hockey Club, where he suffered a 5-3 loss. He's 6-8-5 in 19 games, with two shutouts, a 3.08 GAA, and a .888 Sv%.

In his career against the Blues, Vladar is 1-0-1 with five goals against, producing a 2.45 GAA and .900 SV% in two contests, including the overtime loss on Dec. 5.

Meanwhile, St. Louis is going with their number one goalie, Jordan Binnington, who will make his 32nd start on Tuesday night. He's 11-16-3 with three shutouts, a 2.85 GAA, and a .897 SV%.

Historically, Binnington has been a Flames killer throughout his career. He has a 7-1-0 record in nine games and has surrendered 27 goals for a 3.19 GAA and .904 SV%.

Conversation Starters

  • Rory Kerins had a historic debut on Monday, picking up two assists in the first period. Can he double down on his debut week and score his first NHL goal against St. Louis?
  • Nazem Kadri didn't have a point against Chicago, but the last three times that has happened, he responded with a goal in the next game. Will that trend continue tonight against the Blues?
  • Matthew Coronato has five points in the last five games, with a goal and four assists. Considering some of his teammates, like Jakob Pelletier, are heating up, will he continue his three-game point streak tonight?
