The Calgary Flames grew frustrated with forward Adam Ruzucka this year and put him on waivers to send him to the minors. He was plucked up by the Arizona Coyotes, but just weeks later finds himself on waivers again — this time with the intention of terminating his contract after he posted a video to his Instagram showing him to be around what looked like an illegal substance.
The Coyotes posted their statement not long after the video of Ruzicka surfaced, with a line of white powder in front of him and a selfie of him sticking a vial in his mouth. It was later deleted, but screenshots were made, and it continues to make the rounds on social media.
“We have placed forward Adam Ruzicka on unconditional waivers for purposes of terminating his contract,” the statement said. “The Club will have no further comment at this time.”
Consistent effort was missing in Calgary, which is why the team risked exposing the 24-year-old to waivers a month ago. He was a fringe player in Arizona as well, suiting up for just three games with the Coyotes after 39 appearances with the Flames this year. He had three goals and nine points this year — all with the Flames.
If he clears unconditional waivers on Saturday, the Coyotes can terminate his contract, which would make him a UFA. He is currently on the final season of a two-year contract with a $762,500 annual cap hit.
The Calgary Flames drafted Ruzicka in the fourth round in 2017 and the 6-foot-4 centre showed potential but never panned out.
