Game Preview: Flames vs Oilers cover image

The Calgary Flames (22-27-6) will close out the pre–Olympic break portion of their schedule with a familiar and fiery matchup, hosting the Edmonton Oilers (28-21-8) in a Battle of Alberta showdown on Wednesday night.

Despite trailing Edmonton in the standings, Calgary has held the upper hand in the season series, winning two of the three meetings between the provincial rivals. That includes a tightly contested 3–2 victory at the Scotiabank Saddledome on December 27, 2025. With emotions typically running high whenever these two teams meet, the Flames will look to carry that confidence into the break.

Devin Cooley (6-6-3) is expected to get the start in goal for Calgary as he searches for his seventh win of the season in his 19th appearance. Cooley will be tasked with slowing down an Oilers offence that can strike quickly, especially in transition and on the power play.
