After emotional shutout win over Blue Jackets, Dan Vladar gets the start for Calgary Flames against Blues

Vladar Gets Third Straight Start In Flames Goal

Fresh off a shutout that was overshadowed by the emotional pre-game ceremony for Johnny Gaudreau's family on Tuesday, goaltender Dan Vladar gets another start for the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

In his most extended stretch of the season, Vladar is between the pipes for a third straight game.

Although it's uncertain whether fellow Flames goalie Dustin Wolf would have been between the pipes on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets if he'd been healthy, Vladar was tapped and earned his second shutout of the season.

He faced just 16 shots and went more than 20 minutes during one stretch, but Vladar was solid when called upon. Although the Flames have had their struggles on the road, Vladar has won three of his last four starts at the Saddledome, including both of his shutouts.

Tuesday's game was secondary to the video tribute and ceremonial puck drop featuring Johnny Gaudreau's parents, Jane and Guy, his wife Meredith and their kids Noa and Johnny Jr., and sisters Kristen and Katie.

"At that point you kind of don't even want to really play hockey. But you remember Johnny, how he always wanted to play hockey with a smile on. So this one's for him," Vladar said after the 3-0 win over the Blue Jackets on Tuesday. "He was watching us for sure."

Rasmus Andersson scored the winning goal, and Johnny Gaudreau was named the game's first star, with Guy coming out to the ice with Mikael Backlund and Andersson to soak in the adoration from the Saddledome crowd.

For the occasion, Vladar was wearing a special mask featuring photos of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who were tragically killed riding their bicycles near the family's home in New Jersey this summer. The mask is currently being auctioned off for charity and is sitting at more than $13,000.
